Bellekin

Ámsterdam (?), ca. 1625 - Ámsterdam, ca. 1711

Biography

A renowned mother-of-pearl carver and engraver, he was the son of Jan Bellekin, who likely introduced him to this craft. In their shared workshop in Amsterdam, they created delicate pieces from Nautilus pompilus shells brought from the waters of Southeast Asia. Their mother-of-pearl work was mounted on exquisite goldsmith pieces from German and Dutch workshops, resulting in refined pieces generally intended for sumptuous table settings.
