Biography

One of the sons of Pedro Berruguete, who took upon his artistic legacy and decided to become a professional painter and sculptor. In 1508 he travelled to Italy, where he developed his personal style once he  made contact with classical art, and such renowned artists such as Michelangelo. He gained fame during his stay, leading Vasari to cite him in his great work The Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Architects, Painters and Sculptors under the nickname "Alonso Berugetta Spagnolo". From 1536 onwards, he participated in the construction of the upper choir of the Cathedral of Toledo with Felipe Bigarny.
