Charles Deering built Maricel Palace in Sitges (1910-1917). Also restored Tamarit castle in Tarragon. Both of these places, as well as several other homes in Stiges, were used to house his art collection.
In 1924, Charles Deering arranged for his two daughters, Marion Deering McCormick and Barbara Deering Danielson, to inherit his art collection. Upon his death in 1927, the bulk of this collection was donated to the Art Institute of Chicago over the course of several decades, as a continuation of the contributions made to the museum during Charles Deering’s lifetime.
