If you have entered more than one word, try to simplify the search by writing only one, later you can add other words to filter the results.
Omit words with less than 3 characters, as well as common words like "the", "of", "from", as they will not be included in the search.
You don't need to enter accents or capitalization.
The search for words, even if partially written, will also include the different variants existing in the database.
If your search yields no results, try typing just the first few characters of a word to see if it exists in the database.
Charles Deering Collection
(Spain)
Description
Charles Deering built Maricel Palace in Sitges, Spain. Also restored Tamarit castle in Tarragon, Spain. Both of these places, as well as several other homes in Stiges, were used to house his art collection.
Deering left Maricel in 1921, and the palace was emptied.
In 1924, Charles Deering arranged for his two daughters, Marion Deering McCormick and Barbara Deering Danielson, to inherit his art collection. Upon his death in 1927, the bulk of this collection was donated to the Art Institute of Chicago over the course of several decades, a continuation of Charles Deering’s legacy of contributions to the museum in his lifetime.
