Collection Plandiura

Barcelona (Spain)

Description

Luis Plandiura y Pou (Barcelona, 1882–1956) Catalan industrialist, politician, and collector.

He began by collecting posters and went on to collect Romanesque and Gothic pieces. He collected works by Catalan Modernist and Post-Modernist painters at his home in Barcelona.

In 1932, he suffered a severe financial crisis in the sugar trade, which forced him to sell his collection of 1,869 works to the Barcelona Museum Board.

He subsequently assembled two more collections: one he donated to the Víctor Balaguer Library and Museum in Villanueva y Geltrú in 1956, and another kept at his home in La Garriga, which was dispersed in 1963.

The geographic coordinates provided for the location are merely an approximate reference.
