Observations
The work, produced in an Antwerp workshop, was acquired on 2 March 1564 by the Cabildo of Seville Cathedral from don Pedro de Castro, Camarero to the Cardinal and Bishop of Burgos don Francisco de Mendoza. The central band depicts the triumphal welcome that the women of Israel gave to David and Saul after defeating the Philistine. This piece forms a pair with another vase that narrates the vicissitudes suffered by the Israelites in the wilderness. The handle on the vase would appear to be a later addition to the piece's arrival in Spain.
