de la Virgen de Covarrubias, Maestro
?, ca. 1400 - ?, ?
Biography
It is believed that he could have been an assistant to Jan van Eyck in the workshop. Active in 1440-1445 (Borchert 2002, p. 241). The painter's nationality is still unknown, but there are theories that mention that he might have been either spanish, german or flemish. Eberhard König suggests that he might have worked as one of the manuscript illuminators from the K Hand group of the Turin-Milan Hours ( Jones 2014, p. 158).
This artist shares a similar name to the "Master of Covarrubias", a 16th century sculptor that was active in Burgos.
