Observations

The carved altarpiece by Jacob van Cothem is integrated into the wall of the funerary chapel of the Salamanca family in Burgos. The typology of the altarpiece differs significantly from the standardized production of early sixteenth-century Antwerp workshops. It was likely executed according to the patron’s precise specifications. The altarpiece features donor portraits along with their coat of arms.
